Install the Android 14 DP Update

Once you have downloaded the Android 14 DP build for Xiaomi 12T, you can choose from two methods to install the update: the Local Update method and the Fastboot Update method.

Please note that participating in the Developer Preview Program comes with certain risks, as it is still a pre-release version of the software. It may contain bugs or compatibility issues that might affect the overall performance of your device. Exercise caution and proceed at your own discretion.

Method 1: Local Update

If you prefer updating your Xiaomi device without unlocking it, follow these steps:

  1. Copy the downloaded MIUI ROM file into the “downloaded_rom” folder in the internal storage of your Xiaomi 12T device. If the folder doesn’t exist, create one and paste the file into it. Ensure that the folder is in the root directory of your phone.
  2. Launch the Settings app on your Xiaomi 12T device.
  3. Tap on “About phone.”
  4. Select “System update.”
  5. Tap the three dots icon in the top-right corner.
  6. Choose “Choose update package” and select the file you copied in Step 1.
  7. Wait for the firmware to be extracted and installed on your Xiaomi 12T. This process may take some time, so be patient.
  8. After the installation is complete, restart your Xiaomi 12T device.

Method 2: Fastboot Update

For the Fastboot Update method, follow these steps:

  1. Download the MIUI ROM Flashing Tool and install it on your Windows PC or laptop.
  2. Turn off your Xiaomi device and enter Fastboot mode by pressing the Volume– key and the Power button simultaneously. Connect your phone to the computer using a USB-C cable.
  3. Decompress the downloaded MIUI ROM file and open the file folder.
  4. Copy the path of the ROM file folder on your computer.
  5. Open the MIUI ROM flashing tool (MiFlash.exe) and paste the copied ROM file folder path into the address bar.
  6. Click the “refresh” button to let the tool recognize your Xiaomi 12T phone.
  7. Then, click the “flash” button to flash the ROM file to your device.
  8. Wait for the progress bar inside MiFlash to turn fully green, indicating that the ROM has been successfully installed on your Xiaomi 12T.
  9. Once the ROM installation is complete, your Xiaomi 12T device should automatically boot into the new Android 14 version.

It should be noted that the Fastboot Update method will erase all user data on your Xiaomi 12T device. So, it is essential to back up your data before proceeding with this method to avoid any data loss.

If you come across any issues or have feedback during your usage of the Android 14 Developer Preview, you can submit your feedback through the Android DP Feedback app included in the Developer Preview.

Opt-Out of Developer Preview

If you decide to opt out of the Android 14 Developer Preview Program or wish to revert back to the factory settings, you can do so using the Fastboot mode:

  1. Turn off your Xiaomi 12T device.
  2. Press the Volume-down button and the Power button simultaneously for 4-5 seconds to enter Fastboot mode.
  3. Once in Fastboot mode, you can choose to restore your device to the factory settings.
