Dead Island 2, a 2023 action role-playing game developed by Dambuster Studios and published by Deep Silver, serves as the sequel to the 2011 video game Dead Island and represents the third major installment in the Dead Island series. The game is now accessible on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Series S platforms. However, post-launch, several users have reported audio problems, such as sound not working or audio cutting out. If you’re experiencing these issues, follow this troubleshooting guide to resolve the audio malfunctions in Dead Island 2.
Fix: Dead Island 2 Audio Not Working or Crackling Sound Issue
Affected players reported on Reddit that while playing on the console, the headset turned on, but they barely heard anything else. It seems like everything gets muffled and mixed with lower volume. It ruins the gameplay experience and nothing else. At the same time, some players have also mentioned that there is no issue with the headphones except for the speakers.
1. Repair Game Files
First, you should try repairing the game files in the Epic launcher client to check whether the problem has been fixed. Sometimes having some issues with corrupted or missing game files can be there. To do so:
2. Disable Nahimic Audio Driver
Nahimic is an Audio Driver your PC manufacturer selected to give you an optimized audio experience on laptops, motherboards, and more. It is a trusted driver designed to optimize and tune the audio performance on your computer.
- You must go to Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and head to Startup.
- Now, disable the Nahimic audio driver from the list.
- Finally, restart the computer to check whether the problem has been fixed.
There is no “username\documents\Dead Island 2” folder anywhere…
Plus the issue I’M having is identical to the sound issue both Dead Island 1 & Riptide had at launch – which is extremely low game world volume even if the sliders are at 100%. This was originally fixed with an .ini tweak and then it was patched in by Techland both times.
The only loud thing are those achievement toasts that scare the fart outta me whenever they pop up because they’re really loud. But everything else is extremely quiet, to the point where I have to use Letasoft Sound Booster and put it to 300%.
Verifying the game files did absolutely nothing. I had updated my drivers before installing the game.
My system is just fine, it’s the game itself that’s the problem. And it’s the only game I have this problem in.
