How to Fix Rosetta Stone Error Code 9114 or 9117

The first fix is platform-independent as it has nothing to do with the software part. The second one is completely software-dependent and hence requires a separate section for each. Follow along.

Fix 1: Check Installation CD

One of the most common reasons for this error stems out from the fact that the CD might have a few scratches. As a result, your PC might not be able to read it correctly. So use a soft damp cloth and gently rub the CD to clear it off from all smudges and scratches. Once done, reinsert the CD and try the installation steps. If you get success, well and good, otherwise, refer to the next fix given below.

Fix 2: Deleting dynamicstoredpaths.xml File

Another reason why you might face this error is when the application tries to install itself in a non-default location. As and when that happens, you will be greeted with the Rosetta Stone Error Code 9114 or 9117. So to fix this issue, you will have to delete the dynamicstoredpaths.xml file. Here is how it could be done on different platforms.

On Windows XP

  1. Click on the Start Menu and open My Computer.
  2. Then head over to Local Disk C:\ and open Documents and Settings folder
  3. Next up, go to the All Users folder followed by the Application Data folder
  4. Within that, open the Rosetta Stone folder. Under that, you will see the TOTALe folder.
  5. The said folder will contain the dynamicstoredpaths.xml file. Select it and hit the Delete key.
  6. Now launch the Rosetta Stone app, install the preferred language level and the Error Code 9114 or 9117 should be fixed on your XP Platform.

On Windows Vista and 7

  1. Click on the Start Menu and select Computer
  2. Then open Local Disk C:\ or OS C:\ and head over to the Program Data folder
  3. Within that, open the Rosetta Stone folder.
  4. Next up, open the TOTALe or Language Training folder and you should see the required XML file.
  5. Right-click on the dynamicstoredpaths.xml and select the Delete option from the context menu.
  6. Once that is done, open Rosetta Stone and attempt language level installation, you shouldn’t see the Error Code 9114 or 9117 on your Vista or Windows 7 platform.

On Windows 8 & 10

  1. Launch the Start menu. Type in %programdata% and hit Enter.
  2. Then open the Rosetta Stone folder followed by the Language Training folder. There you could find the XML file.
  3. Select the dynamicstoredpaths.xml file and click the Delete key on your keyboard.
  4. Finally, open Rosetta Stone and try the language level installation, the Error Code 9114 or 9117 should have been fixed on your PC running 8 or 10.

On macOS X

  1. Open the Mac HD hard drive icon on your Desktop. You could also make use of the Finder for the same.
  2. Then open the Library folder followed by the Application Support folder.
  3. Next up, the Rosetta Stone folder and launch the TOTALe or Language Training folder
  4. Control + click on the dynamicstoredpaths.xml file. Doing so will open a secondary window.
  5. Select the Move to Trash option. That is it. You have successfully fixed the aforementioned issue on your macOS.
