Every laptop model has a different shortcut to disable and enable the backlight of the keyboard. So we start from the basic methods that allow the backlight to the keyboard of the Lenovo laptop.

Method 1: Enable Backlight keyboard of Lenovo Laptop By Shortcut Keys

There are some hotkeys to enable or disable the keyboard’s backlight. By default, it is a shortcut method to enable and disable this feature. Most of the models have the shortcut of backlight keys in the spacebar key. To use these hotkeys, press and hold the function key (fn key), then press the spacebar key to enable or disable the keyboard’s backlight. Some laptops also have different brightness levels to use the brightness according to your condition, press and hold the fn key, and then hit the spacebar to adjust.

If you have the Lenovo Thinkpad model, then the hotkey is Page up key. Press and hold the fn key and then press the page up key to enable the keyboard’s backlight. Also, you can repeat the process to disable the feature.

Lenovo Vantage is an official tool of Lenovo that allows users to customize any Lenovo product. Search on Lenovo Vantage. After that, download and install it on your Lenovo system.

Open the Vantage application on the go to the device, then Input and accessories. Now set the backlight keyboard from the available options like enable or disable and adjust the brightness of the keyboard’s backlight.

Method 3: Check BIOS for Working of backlight Keyboard.

BIOS sometimes holds advance features for laptops including input devices such as trackpad and keyboard backlight. If this is true for your particular laptop model, then you have to enable the feature in BIOS. To check whether the issue is on the hardware or software of the keyboard is to check it in BIOS.

  • Restart the Laptop and press the F1 key when you see the Lenovo logo at startup. You any also press Enter ket at the stat up to open the BIOS on your system.
  • Now, press the fn key + spacebar or Esc key in the BIOS window to check the keyboard’s backlight.

Method 4: Restart and Perform a battery drain of the Laptop

The most underrated method to fix many issues in your system is to restart the device. Sometimes due to any technical glitch may also be one of the reasons behind the backlight issue. Also, may some other software interrupting the backlight function to perform. However, if you have a detachable battery, remove the battery after shutting down the system, plug out the AC adapter, hold down the power button for 10 seconds, install the battery, and plug the adapter in the switchboard and restart the system.

Moreover, if you have an inbuilt battery in your system, plug out the AC adapter, and press the power button for 10 seconds. After that, reconnect the AC adapter and switch on the system.

Method 5: Update Driver to the latest

Last but not least, we have to take care of our system to make it updated as per the current version. Often, old versions of drivers may have some issues and may interrupt some of the system’s features. Also, you can update your system in two ways one is Automatic, and the next is manual.

For automatic, you have to press the Windows key, search the update in the startup menu, and click on check for update. After that, click on download and install the available update. For manual updates, you have to visit the Lenovo website, search for the latest version of drivers, and download and install it one by one. Also, go to device manager and search for updates by right click on the driver and then select the scan for hardware changes.

If none of the above methods are working for you, then there might be a problem with the hardware itself. Hardware damage can occur due to water spells, or due to harsh usage of the keyboard. In most cases, the laptop keyboard backlight gets damage after 4-5 years of constant usage. So get your laptop checked from the nearest service center and get the keyboard replaced.
