  • The troubleshooter will get to work and start scanning for any issues in the Windows Update. If it finds a problem and also finds a response to fix it, then you will see an option “Apply the fix” in the troubleshooter window.
  • Click on it, and the utility will run the repair to fix the issue. After the fix is complete, restart the system and try installing the update files again. The chances are that it will install this time.

If you don’t see Apply the Fix option in the utility, or you face the installation error even after the repair is complete, then try the next fix.

Fix 2- Disabling third-party Firewalls:

Anti-viruses do protect from potential threats, but sometimes that protection can be a nuisance. That is precisely the case here. The third-party firewall of the Antivirus application blocks any sort of pop-ups from showing up on your system. This can work against you if you are trying to install a Windows Update. There have been some cases where third party files have blocked Windows Update installation as if it is also a pop-up.

To fix this, you should turn off the real-time protection of your Antivirus application. For that, open up your Antivirus and turn it off manually. This setting is available in all such applications. After turning it off, try installing your update again and see if the problem arises again. If it does, then try removing the app entirely from the system. After removing the application try again with the installation.

If neither of these brings you any results, then move on to the next fix mentioned below.

Fix 3- Disabling Proxy or VPN:

When you are connected to a network with an improperly configured proxy server or with an unrecognized or unreliable VPN server, then Windows just rejects your connection to download and install the updates. Many users have reported that merely turning off VPN or disabling proxy of their connection solved their issue with the installation of Windows files. If you are connected to a proxy server, or if you are using a VPN service, then you should disable them and later try installing the update after that. It might work out for you too.

Disabling proxy:

  • Press and hold the Windows + R keys, and you will see the Rundialog box. Here in the box enter “ms-settings:network-proxy” and hit the Enter button or click on the Ok button.
