Fix: COD Modern Warfare Unable To Access Online Services

It’s also worth mentioning that several times, the same kind of can’t access online services error has occurred previously to modern warfare players. There may be multiple reasons behind such an issue that you can encounter during the gameplay or while connecting to the servers. It can be an internet issue, an antivirus program issue, outdated networking drivers, in-game account issues, server outages, etc.

Here we’ve mentioned a couple of possible workarounds that should help you out of this issue altogether. However, ensure you’ve restarted your game and Wi-Fi router once to cross-check the problem. Meanwhile, try performing the power cycle to your Wi-Fi router to refresh the networking glitch (if any).

1. Check Activision Online Services

Whenever there is an issue with the online game connectivity with the game server, it’s better to check the server or online service status first. To do so:

  • You’ll need to visit the Activision Online Services page to check it.
  • Next, click the drop-down menu and select Call of Duty: Modern Warfare from the list.
  • If you can see that All Platforms are ONLINE, then it means there is no issue with the game servers at that moment.
    • You can also click on the Refresh link to manually refresh the page.

Now, if you can see that there is an issue with the server, then we’ll recommend you refresh the page multiple times and wait for some time to try again.

Additionally, you can follow the official Activision Assist Twitter handle for further updates and info in real time.

2. Run Game and Launcher as Administrator

You should also run the executable game file as an administrator on your computer to get the admin privilege. Otherwise, the system and user account control may not allow the process to run properly. To do so:

  • Right-click on the installed ModernWarfare.exe file.
  • Select Properties > Click on the Compatibility tab.
  • Enable the Run this program as an administrator checkbox.
  • Click on Apply and hit OK to save changes.

Similarly, you’ll have to follow the same steps for the specific game launcher, such as the Steam or Battle.net client. Sometimes running a game launcher without admin access can cause several issues.

3. Verify the Integrity of Game Files

Whether you’re using the Steam or Battle.net client, we’ve provided both methods to check and repair game files. To do so:

Steam Users:

  • Open the Steam client > Go to Library.
  • Right-click on the COD: Modern Warfare game.
  • Click on Properties > Select the Local Files tab.

  • Then click on Verify Integrity of Game Files.
  • Wait for the process to complete and restart the game to check whether the issue has been fixed or not.

Battle.net Users:

  • Open the Blizzard Battle.net client > Now, locate the COD: Modern Warfare game.
  • Click on Options > Select Scan and Repair.

  • Wait for the process to complete and make sure to restart your client to apply changes.
  • Now, you can try running the MW game again.

4. Update Networking Driver

It may also be possible that somehow your networking driver becomes outdated for a while and that’s why you’re encountering issues with the server connectivity. To do this:

  • Press the Windows + X keys to open the Quick Access Menu.
  • Select Device Manager > Double-click on Network adapters.
  • Now, right-click on the active network adapter.

  • Select Update driver > Choose Search automatically for drivers.
  • If an update is available, it’ll automatically download and install the update.
  • Once done, you can restart your computer to apply changes.
  • Finally, you can fix the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Unable To Access Online Services issue.

5. Link Activision and Blizzard Account

Most of the Call of Duty PC gamers do this common mistake that they don’t connect or link both the Activision and Blizzard accounts. Make sure to link both these accounts properly.

  • Visit the Activision webpage > Click on LOGIN from the top-right corner.
  • Enter your account credentials and sign in.
  • Now, click on PROFILE from the top-right corner.
  • From the ACCOUNT LINKING section, choose Link With Battle.net Account.
  • Once done, you’ll be able to play the MW game easily.

6. Disable Windows Firewall and Defender

Windows OS has both the Windows Defender and Firewall security program enabled by default. As security protection software, these programs may start blocking any specific game’s ongoing connections to the servers to prevent malware or online attacks. In that scenario, you’ll need to disable them temporarily.

  • Click on the Start Menu > Type Windows Firewall and select Windows Defender Firewall from the search result.

  • Now, click on Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off from the left pane.

  • Make sure to turn off all the Private, Domain, and Public Network Settings options.
  • Finally, click on OK to save changes.

It should fix the Call of Duty Modern Warfare Unable To Access Online Services issue completely.

However, if you don’t want to turn it off then you can allow the game files to run through the firewall. To do that:

  • Click on the Start Menu > Type Windows Firewall and click on Windows Defender Firewall from the search result.
  • Click on Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall from the left pane.

  • Now, click on Change settings > Go to Allow another app…
  • Locate and select Modern Warfare > Select both the Private and Public checkbox to allow it.
  • Once added, launch your game and check whether the problem is still bothering you.

Finally, it would be best if you also disabled the antivirus protection from Settings > Privacy and Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Manage settings > Turn off the Real-time protection toggle.
