Xiaomi’s subsidiary brand POCO though becomes an independent smartphone brand, the tradition, and official stock skin is still followed with the help of Xiaomi. In order to carry on the list of budget segment devices, Poco has recently launched the much-awaited Poco C3 device that runs on Android 10 over MIUI 12 out of the box.

If you happen to own a Poco C3 (codenamed angelicain) and are looking for ways to unlock the bootloader of the phone then, you are at the right place. In this post, we will be guiding you on how to unlock the bootloader of the Poco C3 phone. If you are new to rooting, then you must understand that first, you need to unlock the bootloader of the device and then install a custom recovery like TWRP to root the device. Poco C3 Device Overview

Poco C3 comes with a 6.43-inches IPS LCD display, 720×1600 pixels resolution, a 20:9 aspect ratio screen with the help of Panda Glass protection.

The handset is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio G35 SoC, coupled with PowerVR GE8320 GPU, 3GB/4GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB of internal storage variants. Most importantly, the device has a dedicated MicroSD card support for the additional storage expansion. It has a triple 13MP (wide, f/2.2) + a 2MP (macro, f/2.4) + a 2MP (depth, f/2.4) camera setup at the backside. While the front features a 5MP selfie camera with a wide-angle, f/2.2 lens.

Talking about the connectivity features, the Poco C3 sports a dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Wi-Fi Direct, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, FM Radio, MicroUSB 2.0 port, USB OTG, etc. While the device packs an ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, and an accelerometer. The best part is that it has a massive 5,000mAh battery which will last more than a day very easily. However, it has a standard 10W charging.

It commands the device to run the appropriate programs in order to run smoothly and provide better performance. However, there are methods and ways via which you can safely unlock the bootloader of the device and go ahead with flashing a custom recovery to root your device. But, you should make sure to follow a reliable guide and follow the steps correctly in order to avoid any permanent damage to your phone.

Why do we need to unlock the bootloader?

Pre-requisites

Charge your phone

You need to make sure that your Poco C3 is charged to about 60% before operating it for unlocking the bootloader to avoid any boot loop issues during the unlocking process.

You need a PC or Laptop

Enable USB Debugging and OEM Unlock

To unlock the bootloader, first, you need to enable the USB Debugging and OEM unlock to interact with your PC or Laptop via the Mi Flash tool.

1. On your phone, Open the Settings app
2. Look for the About Phone menu and Tap on it
3. You may see the device build number or software version detail, tap on it multiple times until the confirmation of developer options enabled flashes on the screen.

Now as the developer options are enabled on Poco C3 (angelicain), this will appear inside settings. You can enable USB debugging by accessing developer options. The steps to do this are:

1. If you have enabled the developer option, now go back and tap settings again
2. Open the Additional Settings menu – Developer option
3. Enable the USB Debugging and OEM unlock

Bind your Mi Account

In order to unlock the bootloader on your Poco C3, you are first required to bind your Mi Account to your phone. This can be easily done via the Mi Unlock Status menu that is located within the Developer Options. Follow the steps below to bind your Mi Account with your Poco C3:

1. Make sure that you have a Mi Account. If not then, it can be easily created by visiting the official page.
2. You need to insert the SIM card with the same number that you used to create the Mi account.
3. Now, you need to use your mobile internet connection and disconnect from the WiFi for the further process.
4. Then, head over to Settings>>Additional Settings>>Developer Options>>Add account and device and log in with your account.
5. You will be greeted with a toast message stating “Added successfully. Mi account is associated with this device now.“
6. That’s it!

Note that you should not try to bind your account, again and again, to avoid getting blocked temporarily by Mi.

Steps to Unlock Bootloader on Poco C3 (angelicain)

1. Turn off your phone and boot into the Fastboot mode.
2. You need to connect your device to your PC/Laptop with the help of USB Cable while in Fastboot mode.
3. Download the Mi Unlock Tool from the above section.
4. Extract the contents of the zip file and open the miflash_unlock.exe file.
5. Log in to the Mi account within the tool.
6. The tool will now verify whether your phone is eligible for bootloader unlocking.
7. Once the phone is verified, the tool will show that the “Phone connected“.
8. Now click the Unlock button within the tool.
9. You will be prompted with a new message where you need to click on the Unlock anyway button.
10. This will commence the unlocking process and once the process is complete, you will see a message stating Unlocked successfully.
11. Click on the Reboot phone button. This will reboot your phone into the OS and you will be treated with an unlocked bootloader message confirming that the Poco C3 is unlocked.
