Motorola has launched Moto E5 Play handset back in 2018 July with entry-level budget features and technical specifications. It has the quad-core Snapdragon 425 SoC and Android 8.0 Oreo preloaded. The new software update brings the July 2019 Android security patch level to the phone system with the software version ODP27.91-121-14 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. Though the software update doesn’t offer any extra features to the device for now.

Steps to Install the Software Update Manually on Verizon Moto E5 Play Prepaid

Before installing the firmware update, make sure to follow the pre-requirements and install the necessary drivers and tools on your PC. After following the requirements properly, head over to the updating process.

Pre-Requirements:

  • This ROM file and guide are supported only for Motorola Moto E5 Play Verizon Wireless variant. Don’t try it on other devices.
  • You will require a PC/Laptop and a USB cable to connect your phone with the computer.
  • Download and Install the latest Motorola USB Drivers for Windows and MAC. [For All Android USB Drivers]
  • Download and extract the ADB fastboot tool on your PC (Fastboot Method)
  • Make sure to charge the device battery up to 60% at least.

  • Select Apply Update from ADB.
  • Plug the phone into PC using USB Cable, then open a command prompt window by pressing Shift Key + Right Mouse Click.
  • Now execute the below command in CMD screen.
adb sideload Filename.zip
  • Wait until the installation process completes.
  • Once the installation process completed. Reboot the phone.
  • That’s it. Done.

Manually Update Verizon Moto E5 Play Prepaid Stock Firmware via Recovery

  1. First of all, Go to Settings > About Phone > Tap on Build Number 7 Times. The Developer options will enable.
  2. Go back to the main Settings menu. Search for the Developer Options > Enable USB Debugging.
  3. Download the firmware file from above and save it in the device internal storage.
  4. Now, reboot your Motorola device to Stock Recovery Mode.
  5. Select Apply Update from SD Card.
  6. Select the Downloaded ZIP file (ROM File) from SD Card.
  7. Wait until Installation process Completes.
  8. Once the installation completed. Reboot your device.
  9. Enjoy!
