With the new Android 11, Facebook Messenger is receiving a few important revamp. The primary one of that is the introduction of the Chat bubbles feature. It is somewhat similar to the previous Chat heads interface on the Messenger app. Last year Bubbles went live with the Android 10 developer beta. Now, with the upcoming Android 11, the Bubbles are becoming a prominent feature. In this guide, I have explained how to enable or disable the revamped chat heads in Facebook Messenger on Android 11.
You must have an Android device that is running on Android 11. Also, you must be running version 268.0.0.3.118 of Messenger, then your device will support the Chat bubbles. It is interesting to note that you can select which conversations to appear in bubbles. In fact, if you want you can disable the bubble feature for all conversations in the Messenger app.

How Chat Bubbles in Facebook Messenger Work
There is no rocket science here. The basic idea is to provide a floating on-screen component that can expand a chat thread. For every individual conversation you have, it can appear as a bubble. When you receive a new Facebook message, a chat bubble will show up on your smartphone display.
Tap on the bubble to expand the chat thread as I mentioned. You do not require to open up the Messenger app to reply to a conversation. To close the chat and the bubble simply hold and drag it to the bottom of the display.
Enable and Disable Chat Bubbles
Here are the simple steps you have to follow to enable the new chat bubbles on your Facebook Messenger.
- open Settings app > tap on Apps and notifications
- Tap See All Apps
- Scroll down to the Messenger app and tap to open it
- Tap on Notifications
- Again tap on Bubbles
- Now choose between the two options All conversations can Bubble or Selected Conversations can bubble
Again I must remind you that this will work only for those devices that are running Android 11. If you wish to disable and do not use the chat bubbles on Messenger, then simply set the setting to Nothing can bubble. You will receive your ‘new message’ notification in the notification center. Alternatively, you can access the new or existing message directly from the Messenger app itself.
So, that’s the simple way to enable or disable the new bubble chat heads feature on Facebook Messenger running on Android 11 smartphones.
