Way 1: Use GPO to Prevent Users from Removing Printer:

  • Firstly, launch the RUN dialogue box by pressing Windows + R altogether.
  • Now inside the empty text space, type gpedit.msc and then click on OK. It will launch the Local Group Policy Editor window on your screen.
  • Inside the Group Policy Editor window, navigate to User Configuration -> Administrative Templates –> Control Panel –> Printers.
  • Now go to the right-pane menu and double-click on Prevent deletion of printers.
  • On the next screen, click on the circular button before Enabled and then click on OK.

Once you apply the above settings, it will prevent users from deleting the printer on a public computer. Even if they will try to do so, they will receive a prompt stating, “This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator”.

Way 2: Use Registry Editor to Prevent Users from Removing Printers:

For users who have a standard or home edition of Windows, they can also modify the registry and prevent any user from removing the printer from their computer. For doing so, follow the steps given below:

  • Firstly, launch the RUN dialogue box by pressing Windows + R altogether.
  • Now inside the empty text space, type regedit and then click on OK. It will launch the Registry Editor window on your screen.
  • Now inside the Registry Editor window, navigate to the following path HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
  • Further from the right-pane menu, double-click over the DWORD entry NoDeletePrinter and then change the Value data field to 1. Now click on OK.
  • Lastly, close the registry editor window and then restart your computer.

Now no users will be able to delete the printer from their Windows 11 and 10 computer.

Note: In case you do not want to prevent users from deleting the printer, then simply change the NoDeletePrinter value to 0.
