Didn’t find your device on the List?

The support for Android 9 Pie varies to a great extent. First, you’ll need a smartphone that was released just last year or maybe even sooner with high-end specifications which usually cost more than other affordable segments although there will be provision for the latter smartphones too. Android Pie requires a sufficient hardware requirement where RAM, ROM, drivers, and other components play a vital role. Failing to comply with the minimum requirement will withdraw your phone’s eligibility and thus, it won’t receive an update.

Speaking of smartphones, there are billions of devices currently being used across the globe with only a fraction which are eligible to get Android Pie update. Then what about other devices? Actually, recent smartphones are built with support to future OSes in mind but that’s only with a new generation of OS than your smartphone is using. Support for all future generation of OSes seems to be very limited with only a few smartphones having the capability to support such a massive architecture.

Smartphone manufacturers like Samsung, LG, HTC, Oppo, OnePlus, Vivo, and basically all brands can actually update their smartphone lines to support the new Android version which means either recalling them or providing an update OTA. But that is just plausible but not a reality. The time and capital that requires being invested in such a massive task would land companies in huge losses and therefore, smartphone manufacturer would resort to launch new smartphones every year that would increase their sales and provide an option for smartphone users to buy a new phone that supports Android Pie.

What to do if your smartphone is not eligible for Android Pie?

Above, I explained to you that why smartphone manufacturers won’t update the existing smartphone models and launch new ones every year. But buying a new smartphone has its own pros and cons. Pros are that you get new features and of course, upcoming Android Pie and the cons are, you’ll have to pay the cost of a new phone just to use the new OS. That seems too expensive deal. There must be a way around and guess what, there is a way around which would allow you to use Android Pie on your existing ineligible smartphone to Android Pie.

Ever heard of Custom ROMs? These are custom made firmware/ROMs that allow the user to extend their features more than what official Android versions could offer LineageOS which is one of the largest custom ROMs firm is developing the 16th version i.e. Lineage OS 16 which is based on Android 9 Pie. It works only a majority of smartphones and provides all the APIs and features that the original version could offer plus, there are more features bundled with it too. So, don’t just wait? Grab the upcoming version of Lineage OS and you can flaunt it to your friends and family without investing a good fortune into buying a new smartphone.
