How to Use Odin to Flash Firmware on Any Samsung Devices

Stock Firmware is the official ROM that the manufacture ships into your device. Although it is still based on Android, yet it is further optimized by the respective OEMs. They tend to add new features, customize the existing ones, or make some changes as they deemed fit. More often than not, all the devices from a particular smartphone manufacturer have near-identical customized Android OS. For example, in the case of Samsung, all the devices, whether they are the entry-level device or its flagship, ship with the latest OneUI operating system.

Although the offering and features will definitely vary, yet the underlying UI and stock options will be the same. Earlier, Samsung shipped their devices with Samsung Experience UX followed by TouchWiz. Now it comes with OneUI for Android 9 devices and OneUI 2.0 for devices running on Android 10. Pre-requisites

• Before you go ahead with the procedure, make sure to back up your Samsung phone completely.
• Install the appropriate Samsung USB drivers.
• Make sure to charge your device to at least 60%.
• Download the latest version of the Odin tool.
• Make sure to enable USB Debugging:
  – To do that again, head to the Settings>>Developer Options>> allow USB Debugging.
• Enter your Galaxy device into the Download mode by pressing Volume Down + Home + Power buttons for Samsung phones with capacitive buttons and Volume Down + Bixby + Power for newer models.

How To Install Stock Firmware on Samsung Phone Using Odin

1. Download the appropriate Galaxy stock firmware for your phone.
2. Extract the contents of the firmware zip file.
3. Notice that the extracted files will be in “.tar” or “.tar.md5” format.
4. Now download and extract the Odin tool on your PC.
5. Open the extracted folder and click on the Odin.exe file.
6. You need to connect your Galaxy device to the PC while it is in Download Mode.
7. Notice that the CO port will light up on Odin once you connect your phone.
8. Click the AP button and select the firmware.
9. Do the same for BL, CP, and CSC.
10. Remember that the regular CSC file erases the entire data set. To save the data, select the ‘HOME_CSC‘ file.
11. Don’t forget to select Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time in the Options tab.
12. Click the Start button to install the firmware on your Samsung device.
13. That’s it! You will see a PASS message once the installation is complete.

Troubleshooting

Below is the list of issues you might encounter while installing the Samsung firmware using the Odin tool. You can quickly troubleshoot the issue by following the solution mentioned below:

• Device not detected by Odin: Ensure that Kies is disabled and that you have installed the correct Samsung USB Drivers on your phone.
• FAIL message on Odin: Download the correct Odin tool and use the correct USB drivers. Try force-shutting down the device and following from step 1.
• The device enters a boot loop. To boot into the stock recovery and factory reset your device, hold the Volume Up + Home/Bixby button and Power key together for a few seconds. On the No command screen, keep holding the Power button and tapping the Volume Up key once. Then select the Wipe data/factory reset button and confirm.
