Change your profile username:

Your profile name is always on display for your friends and everyone else online. Even when you open the Steam Client,  you will see the profile name on the top right corner of your screen. And this is where we can change the name too.

  • Open up the Steam client, and if you are not logged in, then log in to your account.
  • Then you will see your profile username in the top right corner in the form of a drop-down icon.
  • Click on it and then from the drop-down options list, choose “View Profile.”

  • Then you will see the button “Edit profile” in the next window. Click on it.

  • Now simply type your new desired username in the box, which displays your current profile username. It will edit write over it.

  •  Then click on the option “Save Changes.”

This is the only way to change your account name. If this does not work, then you are stuck with that username for the rest of your use. This might happen if you have changed your username for several times. In such scenarios, some wonder if they can open up a new account and send everything over to this account, from that account. But it does not work like that. Steam has a strict policy for user data, and nothing from one account can be transferred over from one account to another one, even if you own both the accounts.

Now, if the account is new and you don’t mind losing all that you have purchased, all the mods that you have, all your subscriptions, then you can just start over with a new account. Everything will be like using Steam for the first time, though. But when you set a new account entirely, you can choose any username of your choice. Then log out from your previous account and log in again to this new account with the username of your choice. But you will lose every sort of data that you previously had in the earlier Steam account.
