Steam is one of the best gaming platform applications. It enables you to buy and download various games belonging to various developers worldwide. Steam is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. However, the application is not totally bug-free. There are a lot of issues to be addressed. Though many issues of Steam and Games can be solved by giving Steam administrative privileges. Therefore it will be a good option for you if you are regularly facing bugs and issues with Steam.

We can grant Steam administrative privileges by locating the steam.exe file and by modifying its property. We can tell Windows to run the Steam.exe file with administrative privileges whenever it runs. By doing so, if we launch a game from Steam, it will also run as an administrator, hence reducing many issues. We need to give Steam administrative privileges because it writes and reads from our hard disk, which is the most case that needs administrative permissions. Step 1) Firstly, open up your Windows File Explorer and go to the directory where Steam is installed.  The default location is C:\Programs Files(x86)\Steam, open the folder and select the steam.exe file.

Step 2) Now, right-click on Steam.exe file and select the properties option from the menu. Go to the Compatibility tab on the properties window and check the option Run this program as an administrator. To save the changes, simply click on the Apply button below.

Step 3) On the same folder, locate the GameOverlayUI.exe file, right-click on it, and select properties. Move to the Compatibility tab and check the Run this program as an administrator option, click on the apply button, and you are done giving the two main applications of steam administration permission.

Step 1) Now, you only have to give the Steam folder full administrative permissions. Therefore, go to the Steam folder, right-click on empty space, and select properties. You should also do the same with your Steam Game folders.

Step 2) Go to the Security tab on the properties window and click on the Advanced button. A prompt will appear, select the first permission entries and click on the Edit button.

Step 3) Check the first box beside the option Full control. This will check all the other basic permissions, click on the Apply button to save the settings.

To run Steam as an admin, you must first go to the directory where Steam is installed. Then you would have to go to set the properties for the main applications, so right-click on steam.exe and from the menu select the properties option. Go to the compatibility tab and check the Run this program as an administrator option. Do the same with GameOverlayUI.exe file.

However, only giving permission to the application won’t be enough. You will also have to give full permission to the Game and steam folder. Therefore, go to the Steam or game folder that you want to have the administrative privileges. Right-click on any empty space, select properties, and click on the security tab. Click on the Advanced button, select the first option, click on Edit. Check the Full Control box and apply the settings.
