How to fix TCL smart TV not connecting to WiFi/Internet?
Since it is difficult to figure out what could be the problem with a particular TV and WiFi connection, you have to try out all the solutions, one after the other, until one works for you.
Check if you are connecting to the right network:
If there are multiple networks near you, you need to check whether you are connected to the right network. If you are connected to a network that is placed far from your TV, it will not be able to get enough bandwidth for proper connectivity. So check which network your TV is connected to. And to do that, follow the steps mentioned below.
- Press the Home button.
- Go to the Network option.
- Then go to Wireless.
- Go through your search results and look for your home network.
- Once you find it, select it and enter the password for it.
If you are connected to the home network but the problem persists, move on to the next solution.
Reset the router:
Resetting the router can fix most issues with your network. When there is any inconsistency with a network, you will face issues with it. But a simple reset will fix all of it.
To reset your router, follow the steps mentioned below.
- Disconnect the router from the power source.
- Keep it like that for a couple of minutes.
- Plug the cable back into the power socket and wait till everything loads up well again.
- Then connect to the WiFi again on your TV.
Move on to the next solution if the problem persists.
Update your TV:
Like other devices, smart TVs also regularly get updates to fix most of their bugs and software inconsistencies. Your WiFi connection problem could be a bug, and an update should be enough to fix it.
So update your TV right away, and to do that, follow the steps mentioned below.
- Press the Home button.
- Select the Settings option.
- Go to System.
- Then go to System Update.
- Select Check Now.
- Your TV will scan for any possible update. If there is any update, it will show up here.
- Select Update Now to download the update and install it.
- After the installation is complete, try using the troubled WiFi connection again.
Move on to the next solution if the problem persists.
Plug the ethernet cable directly to your TV:
TCL TVs have an Ethernet port behind them, and if you are only trying to connect to the WiFi wirelessly, it is time you give the ethernet port a try as well. Directly connect the cable from your router to the ethernet port on the TV and check whether the WiFi works well or not.
You will have to change the settings of your TV for this, though.
- Press the Home button.
- Select the Settings option.
- Select Network Option.
- Now, select Wired(Ethernet).
- You can now directly plug the cable into the back of the TV
If it does not work even with that, move on to the next solution.
Set the date and time:
Internet connections often do not work if the date and time of your TV are not set up correctly. Even when it is set to automatic, it can malfunction. So you need to manually check the date and time and ensure it is set correctly. Let’s see how you can do it.
- Press the Home button.
- Select the Settings option.
- Select Device preferences.
- Go to Date and Time.
- Now check the date and time. If it is not set correctly, select automatic date & time and set it to Off.
- Go to the set time zone option and select the correct time zone.
- Then, restart the TV.
If it does not work even with that, move on to the next solution.
Factory reset your TV:
The final solution that should work for you is a reset. TCL TVs come with the option for factory reset, and a factory can fix software bugs or issues within minutes. Now, let’s see how one can do it.
- Press the Home button.
- Select the Settings option.
- Go to Advanced System Settings and then select Factory Reset.
