Fix COD Warzone 2 or Modern Warfare 2 GPU not Supported Error

On 28th October, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (MW2) was released, and bugs, glitches, and random crashes like every other COD release plagued the game. Players also encountered several issues, including “dev errors” that removed them from games without warning. Although some players have encountered these issues, they have not stopped them from buying and enjoying MW2.

How to Fix COD Warzone 2 or Modern Warfare 2 GPU not Supported Error

There are some fixes that can easily help you resolve the COD Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 GPU not supported error. So, let’s check them out:

Fix 1: Run the game as Administrator

To grant access to User Account Control (UAC) on your PC, run the game app file as Administrator. Your system must have the UAC access permission to run a specific program in some cases. You will have to grant admin access once by following the steps below, and it will never ask for it again. To do so, follow these steps:

  • You’ll need to go to the directory where the game is installed.
  • Your PC should display the game application file when you right-click it.
  • Go to the Properties tab and select Compatibility.
  • To enable it, click on the Run this program as an administrator checkbox.
  • Then click OK to save the changes.
  • To test for the issue, run the game.
  • To enable it, check Run this program as an administrator.
  • To save the changes, click Apply and then OK.
  • To check if the issue still exists, run the game.

  • You can open AMD Radeon settings by right-clicking on a blank desktop screen.
  • Go to Additional Settings > Preferences.
  • Click Power > Switchable Graphics Application Settings to change switchable graphics application settings.
  • Make your selection from the list of games.
    • You can add the game if it is not visible.
  • In the Graphics Settings, select High Performance.
  • To apply the changes, reboot your PC.

Fix 2: Update GPU Drivers

In the case of a corrupted or outdated graphics card driver, this can cause multiple performance issues in a running game or system. You should check if the graphics driver needs to be updated. To do so:

  • To open the Quick Link Menu, press Win+X.
  • After that, select Device Manager from the list and then double-click Display Adapters.
  • Select the dedicated graphics card you’re currently using and right-click.
  • Select Search automatically for drivers under Update driver.
  • Whenever a new update is available, it will automatically download and install it.
  • You can apply the changes immediately by restarting your computer after completing the process.

Fix 3: Disable fullscreen optimizations.

You may be able to fix the compatibility issues for some PCs by turning off the Windows system’s fullscreen optimizations. Even though it is, by default, disabled, you should cross-check it to make sure that the fullscreen optimization hasn’t been enabled. In order to do so:

  • Click on Library in the Steam client.
  • Go to Manage by right-clicking on Call of Duty: MWII.
  • Select Browse local files > Find the Call of Duty: MWII installation folder.
  • Right-click On CallofDutyModernWarfareII.exe and select Properties.
  • To disable fullscreen optimizations, click on Disable fullscreen optimizations in the Compatibility tab.
  • To save the changes, click Apply and then OK.

Fix 4: Close Background Running Tasks

Running unnecessary background processes or programs on your computer is harmful, as they consume many CPU or Memory resources. Therefore, GPU not supported issues are quite common. Please eliminate all the unnecessary background tasks running in the background by closing all of them. Here’s how:

  • To open Task Manager, press Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
  • On the Processes tab, click the Unnecessary Tasks button and select the unnecessary tasks that use too much of the system’s resources.
  • To close each task, click End Task.
  • After you have completed this process, restart your computer.

Fix 5: Use the Best Performance Power Plan

Ideally, it would be best if you also changed the power plan on the computer since the Windows system defaults to the Balanced power plan. By adjusting the power plan, you can increase performance. It is crucial to remember that the performance plan can consume more power. Here’s how:

  • Initially, to open the Run dialog box, press Win+R.
  • You can open the Control Panel by typing it in the search field and clicking OK.
  • Select Power Options (Power & battery) from the menu.

Fix 6: Chipset Drivers are Outdated

These issues might frequently occur if your PC’s chipset driver is outdated. The best thing you can do is to check for updates and fix the GPU not supported error or even avoid using the CPU entirely while playing games. Here’s how:

  • To open the Quick Link Menu, press Win+X.
  • From the list, click Device Manager > Double-click System Devices.
  • From the list of chipset devices, right-click on the one you want to use.
  • Select Search automatically for drivers under Update driver.
  • This will automatically download & install the latest version if one is available.
  • Restart the computer once you have completed the process to apply changes immediately.

Fix 7: Turn Off Antivirus Protection

If your PC has Windows Defender turned on, you must try turning it off to ensure that no antivirus software is blocking your game files from running correctly.

  • To open Windows Settings, press Win+I.
  • From the left pane, click on Update & Security > Windows Security.
  • Select Open Windows Security from the menu.
  • Navigate to Virus & threat protection > Manage Settings.
  • Lastly, you will need to turn off Real-time protection.
  • To proceed, click Yes if prompted.

Fix 8: Perform a Clean Boot

The system boot-up issue was allegedly fixed by performing a clean boot on the PC due to a conflict between some apps and tasks starting at the very beginning. There are several tasks that constantly run and consume a significant amount of system resources. To do so, follow these steps:

  • Initially, to open the Run window, press Win+R.
  • To open System Configuration, type msconfig and hit Enter.
  • To enable it, click on Hide all Microsoft services under Services.
  • To turn off all services, click Disable all.
  • To save changes, click Apply, then OK.
  • To open Task Manager, go to Startup > Open Task Manager.
  • Ensure that the startup task with the highest impact is selected on the Startup tab.
  • To disable it, click Disable.

Fix 9: Reinstall COD Modern Warfare 2

To check if reinstalling COD Modern Warfare 2 on the PC fixes the GPU not supported error, try the methods above if none worked for you.

For Steam:

  • Start Steam on your PC.
  • Navigate to the Library > Right-click on COD Modern Warfare 2.

  • To uninstall, select the drop-down menu underneath the play button.
  • The changes will take effect once the PC has been rebooted.
