How to Unlock Your Apple Watch

It also brings plenty of cool looking watch faces, other useful features for your daily need, some additional sensors that you may not find on other branded smartwatches. Due to the Apple ecosystem, it’s very easy to seamlessly connect each of your Apple devices together, syncing, transferring, locking, and even unlocking as well. Here in this article, we will share with you simple steps on how to unlock your Apple Watch easily.

There are several ways to unlock your Apple Watch such as you can use a passcode or use your iPhone. You can always use in-built settings to unlock your watch for all-day or lock & unlock it manually or automatically lock when you’re not using it. So, without wasting any more time, let’s jump into it.

How to Unlock Your Apple Watch

You can unlock Apple Watch manually either by entering the passcode or you can also set it to unlock automatically whenever you unlock your iPhone. Cool, isn’t it.

1. Use Passcode:

  • Tap on the screen to wake Apple Watch.
  • Simply enter the watch passcode > Tap on OK.
  • You’re done.

2. Unlock Apple Watch Using iPhone:

  • Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
  • Now, tap on Passcode > Turn on Unlock with iPhone.
  • Your iPhone needs to be close enough within the Bluetooth range (about 33 feet or 10 meters) of your Apple Watch so that it can seamlessly unlock. If Bluetooth is turned off on your Apple Watch, then you can always enter the passcode on Apple Watch to unlock it.

Tip:

Make sure to set the passcode differently on both iPhone and Apple Watch for better privacy or security.

3. Change Apple Watch Passcode

It’s worth mentioning that at the first-time set-up of your Apple Watch, you can set a passcode. But if in case, you want to change it or remove it, follow the below steps:

  • Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch.
  • Next, tap on Passcode > Tap on Change Passcode.
  • Now, just follow the on-screen prompts and change your passcode easily.
    • You can also open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone > Tap on My Watch > Tap on Passcode > Tap on Change Passcode > Follow the on-screen prompts to change it.

Note:

If you want to use a longer passcode more than four digits on your Apple Watch then head over to the Settings app on your Apple Watch > Tap on Passcode > Turn off Simple Passcode.

4. Turn Off Passcode

If you’re not comfortable with locking and unlocking your Apple Watch every time then you can also turn off the watch passcode completely.

  • Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch.
  • Tap on Passcode > Tap on Turn Passcode Off.
    • You can also go to the Apple Watch app on your iPhone > Tap on My Watch > Tap on Passcode > Tap on Turn Passcode Off.

Note:

Keep in mind that if you turn off your Apple Watch passcode then you can’t use Apple Pay on the Watch.

5. Lock Apple Watch Automatically

If you want to automatically lock your Apple Watch then simply enable the wrist detection feature on your Apple Watch to lock it automatically even when you’re not using it.

  • Go to Settings on your Apple Watch.
  • Tap on Passcode.
  • Next, turn on Wrist Detection.
  • You’re good to go.

6. Manually Lock your Apple Watch

  • Tap and hold the bottom of the screen on your Apple Watch.
  • Swipe up to bring the Control Center.
  • Now, tap on the Lock button.

Note:

You need to turn off wrist detection to manually lock your Apple Watch. Meanwhile, you will need to enter your passcode at the next time when you use your Apple Watch.

7. Forget Apple Watch Passcode?

If in case, you forget your Apple Watch Passcode then you will need to simply factory reset your Apple Watch. Check out the steps below:

  • First of all, unpair your Apple Watch with your iPhone.
  • Reset your Apple Watch by heading over to the Settings app on your Apple Watch > Select General > Tap on Reset > Tap on Erase All Content and Settings > Enter your Passcode. (Cellular plan users either can choose to Erase All or Erase All & Keep Plan)
  • Once done, your Apple Watch will reboot automatically.
  • Finally, pair your Apple Watch again with your iPhone.

8. Erase Apple Watch Data to Unlock

You can also erase all the watch data and settings in order to unlock it by attempting 10 consecutive unlock using a wrong passcode.

  • Go to Settings on your Apple Watch.
  • Next, tap on Passcode.
  • Turn on Erase Data.
