Fix: PS5 Overheating Problems And Shutting Down

The Sony Playstation 5 is an incredible game console. However, since its release in 2020, it has been extremely difficult to find at a reasonable price. The console itself is a vast improvement over Sony’s previous PS4 and PS4 Pro offerings. The noisy jet fans that wind up quickly and are audible during any gaming session are no longer present.

The PS5 has a gen 4 NVME SSD drive, which is pretty awesome. Nevertheless, Sony has added the 4K@120fps feature with the new hardware that will definitely enhance your gaming experiences. But, there is still room for refinements as users are often facing many issues with the console.

However, the most common issue is PS5 overheating and random shutting down problems, which is very annoying as it leaves the player nowhere but in a chaotic situation. But, now no need to worry as we have some fixes with us that will help you resolve the overheating and random shutting down issue. So, make sure to follow this guide until the end.

How To Fix PS5 Overheating Problems And Shutting Down

So, these are the ways that you can use to fix the PS overheating and shutting down problems. Therefore, make sure to follow them carefully. So, now, let’s get started with them:

Fix 1: Shutdown Your PS5 For A While

If you find that your PS5 is overheating continuously, then there are chances that you are using your PS5 for a prolonged time, due to which it started heating up. However, in that situation, the best option for you is to completely shut down your PS5 and remove all the cables, including the HDMI cable.

Shutdown Your PS5 For A While

Then, leave it for a few hours until it cools down. After that, again plugin all the cords and cables and boot it. Now, check if the overheating or sudden shutdown problem gets resolved or not.

However, we have seen that this type of issue automatically gets fixed in many cases. Therefore, you must also try this out, and we also suggest you do not play games on your PS5 for long hours and always turn off your PlayStation completely when you are done with playing.

Fix 2: Make Sure It Gets Proper Ventilation

The ambient temperature can quickly rise if all of the console parts are dissipating heat into a compacted area, such as the inside of your PS5 case. If the case is not appropriately ventilated, the hot air can cause the system to overheat, resulting in poor performance or sometimes shutdown of the device.

This is where airflow comes into play. However, giving proper ventilation is very important. So, you have to make sure that your PS5 has a proper area for airflow. Once you provide enough space for air passage, you’ll notice that the overheating issue automatically disappears.

Fix 3: Check The Room Temperature

It’s essential to mention that room temperature has an impact on your PS5’s internal workings as well. Higher room temperatures, particularly those above 80°F/27°C, can have an impact on performance because the console’s internal heat is increased.

Check The Room Temperature

So, check if your room temperature is normal or not. However, if you feel that the room temperature is not normal in your room, turn on your AC, cooler, fan, or anything that lowers the temperature. Once your room temperature backs to its normal state, you will find that the PS5 again starts working properly.

Fix 4: Clean The Dust

Clean The Dust

Dust accumulation can have an impact on your PS5’s performance for two reasons: it causes the components of your PS5 to retain heat and makes it more difficult for the internal fans to dissipate heat from the PS5 system, lowering the overall efficiency of the PS5 system.

Another reason why dust makes your PS5 overheating is that the dust is an insulator; therefore, when there is a resistance of electricity inside your console, the components start emitting heat. Well, that’s why we suggest you clean your PS5 time-to-time to ensure that the dust does not accumulate on it.

But, at the same time, we are not suggesting you open the whole system of your PS5. Instead, we are only advising you to clean the exhaust fan area by opening the outer case of your PS5. Otherwise, you can also hover to your nearest Sony service center to clean it from inside.

Fix 5: Check If There Is Any Update Going On Background

There are huge chances that any update is going on in the background while you are playing your favorite game due to which the system uses more resources with its full power due to which the components of your PS5 started emitting heat energy, and that’s the reason why your PS5 suddenly starts overheating and crashing.

Therefore, we suggest you check if there is any update on either software, theme, game, etc., going in the background, immediately stop it. First, you finish playing the game and then update the other things when you are not using the console.

Fix 6: Update Your OS

Did you check if your PS5 is running on the latest version of OS? Well, although the system OS automatically gets updated whenever Sony releases it. But, sometimes, due to poor internet connection or any other technical issues, the system fails to update it. Therefore, in that case, you need to update it manually. So, in case you don’t know how to do it, perform these steps:

  1. Firstly, in order to check for updates, navigate to the Settings.
  2. After that, hit the System section. Then, select the System Software.
  3. Now, hover over to the System Software Update and Settings.
  4. Then, select the Update System Software and select the Update Using Internet to proceed further.

Fix 7: Rebuilt Database

Depending on how full your PS5 console is, a PS5 database rebuild could take minutes or hours. Rebuilding reorganizes your hard drive so that the system can access your files more easily and quickly. This will also help you to fix the overheating or sudden shutting down issue. Therefore, you must try this out, and here is the instruction that will help you do so:

  1. Firstly, turn off your PS5 console completely.
  2. Now, press the PS5 power button for about seven seconds.
  3. After that, connect your DualSense controller to the console using a USB cable.
  4. Then, in the safe mode, you have to select the Rebuild Database option, which in my case, will be the fifth one. Rebuilt Database

Fix 8: Make Sure It Get Proper Current Supply

Still, no luck? Well, suppose the issue is occurring even after trying all the above-mentioned methods. In that case, there are possible chances that the power supply of your PS5 may fluctuate, due to which you are facing overheating and sudden shutting down issues. Therefore, verify if the power socket you are using is working properly or not.

Fix 9: Contact To Support Team

Sadly, if none of the methods mentioned earlier helped you, then you have to contact the PS5 support team and ask them about this error. However, after that, most probably they will suggest you hover over to their nearest Sony service center. Then, depending upon your warranty, they may or may not charge you for the repair.
