Fix: GTA V Error Failed zlib call (ERR_GEN_ZLIB_2)

For Steam Client:

If, in case, you’re missing out on in-game textures or facing startup crashes or any error while launching the game, then make sure to verify and repair the game files properly on the computer. To do so:

• Open the Steam client > Go to Library.
• Here, right-click on the GTA V game from the left pane.
• Make sure to click on Properties from the drop-down menu.
• Next, select the Local Files tab > Click on the Verify integrity of game files… button.
• The Steam launcher will verify the game files now, which may take several minutes, depending on the game file size.
• Once done, reboot the PC to apply changes > Launch the Steam client and play the game to check for the issue.

Note: One or more game files may fail to verify in this process, but that’s normal. You don’t need to worry about it. The failed files are local configuration files that shouldn’t be replaced in this process. You can skip this message.

2. Reinstall GTA V

Well, if somehow the repairing process didn’t work for you, then make sure to uninstall and reinstall the GTA V game on the PC respective to your game launcher because some corrupted or missing game files may trigger several issues. Such kinds of issues can be fixed manually by following the steps below.

For Rockstar Games Launcher:

• First of all, restart your PC to refresh the system.
• Now, click on the Windows icon to open the Start menu.
• Search and open Control Panel > Click on Uninstall a Program.
• Here, find the Rockstar Games Launcher and right-click on it.
• Select Uninstall and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
• Once done, find the Rockstar Games Social Club app and right-click on it.
• Select Uninstall and complete the process > Open File Explorer (This PC).
• Locate and delete the following folders one by one (If you can’t find a folder then you may skip it):
  • C:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\Rockstar Games\Social Club
  • C:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\Rockstar Games\Launcher
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Social Club
  • C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Social Club
  • C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Launcher

Note: If, in case, you’ve installed the Rockstar Games Launcher on a different drive then navigate to the respective location and then delete the mentioned folders.

• You can visit the Rockstar Social Club website link and Reinstall the Rockstar Games Launcher.
• Finally, Reinstall the GTA V game, and play again to check for the Error Failed zlib call (ERR_GEN_ZLIB_2).

For Steam Client:

• Open the Steam launcher > Go to Library.
• Right-click on GTA V from the list of installed games from the left pane.
• Scroll to Manage > Click on Uninstall.
• Navigate to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Grand Theft Auto V folder on your PC. [If you’ve installed the game to another drive then you can navigate there]
• Now, make sure to Delete all folders and files located there.
• Once done, Reinstall the GTA V game from the Steam store section.
• Finally, launch the GTA V game to check for the error again.

For Epic Games Launcher:

• Open the Epic Games Launcher > Click on Library on the left sidebar.
• Find Grand Theft Auto V from the list of installed games.
• Click on the three dots icon next to GTA V > Click on Uninstall.
• Complete the uninstallation process > Navigate to the C:\Program Files\Epic Games\GTA folder on your PC.
• Make sure to Delete all files and folders located there.
• Restart the Epic Games Launcher and Reinstall GTA V via your Library.
• Open the GTA V game to check for the Error Failed zlib call (ERR_GEN_ZLIB_2) if it’s troubling or not.
