Fix: Elden Ring Easy Anti Cheat Failed to Initialize Launch Error

Luckily, there are some possible workarounds available to easily fix it out.

1. Repair EAC

First of all, we’ll highly recommend you repair the Easy Anti Cheat (EAC) service on your Windows PC before heading over to another conclusion. Sometimes repairing the service might gonna resolve the issue easily. To do so:

  • Open the Steam client > Go to Library.
  • Now, right-click on Elden Ring from the list of installed games.
  • You’ll have to click on the Local Files tab.
  • Next, select EasyAntiCheat > Run EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe file as an administrator by right-clicking on it.
    • If prompted by UAC, click on Yes to allow it to run as an admin.
  • Then make sure to click on Repair > Wait for the process to complete.
  • Once done, restart your PC to change effects, and try running the Elden Ring game again to check for the issue.

2. Enable EasyAntiCheat Service

It’s worth recommending to enable the EAC service on your Windows PC by following the steps below. Sometimes the service might get disabled or stopped for unexpected reasons without your knowledge. So, you should ensure whether the EAC service is actually running in the background or not. To do so:

  • Press the Windows + R keys to open up the Run dialog box.
  • Make sure to type services.msc and hit Enter to open Services.
  • Now, search for the Easy AntiCheat service > Keep the Startup type as Manual. [If not, then you’ll need to right-click on the Easy Anti Cheat]
  • Click on Properties > Set the ‘Startup type’ to ‘Manual’.
  • Finally, restart your computer, and try running the Elden Ring game again.

3. Reinstall Easy Anti Cheat

If you’re still receiving the Elden Ring Easy Anti Cheat Failed to Initialize Launch Error then uninstalling and re-installing the EAC service manually on the PC might gonna resolve such an issue. To do this:

  • Open File Explorer on the Windows PC > Navigate to the location where you’ve installed the Elden Ring game.
  • Now, look for the Easy AntiCheat installer file (EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe).
  • Right-click on the easyanticheat_eos_setup.exe file and click on Run as Administrator from the context menu.
  • If prompted by UAC (User Account Control), then click on Yes to grant the admin access.
  • You’ll need to do the same steps for the start_protected_game.exe file to run the game in EAC-enabled mode.
  • Once the Easy AntiCheat engine has been re-installed, make sure to reboot your computer to check for the issue.

4. Disable Steam Overlay

Well, it’s quite obvious for players to use Steam overlay for some additional features or customizations. However, it’s recommended to disable the Steam overlay option while playing the game to check for the issue again.

  • Open your Steam client > Go to the Steam menu from the top left corner.
  • Click on Settings > Go to the In-game overlay option.
  • Now, uncheck Enable Steam Overlay to disable it.
  • Once done, restart your Steam client to apply changes.

5. Verify and Repair Game Files

If in case, there is an issue with the game files and somehow it gets corrupted or missing on the PC then you may encounter multiple issues with the game launching or its services. Make sure to verify and repair the game files by following the steps below to get back on track.

  • Launch the Steam client > Click on Library.
  • Right-click on Elden Ring from the list of installed games.
  • Now, click on Properties > Go to Local Files.
  • Click on Verify Integrity of Game Files.
  • You’ll have to wait for the process until it gets completed.
  • Once done, just restart your computer.

6. Update Elden Ring

Sometimes an outdated game version may trigger bugs or stability issues whatsoever. If you haven’t updated your Elden Ring game for a while then make sure to follow the steps below to check for updates and install the latest patch (if available). To do this:

  • Open the Steam client > Go to Library > Click on Elden Ring from the left pane.
  • It’ll automatically search for the available update. If there is an update available, make sure to click on Update.
  • It may take some time to install the update > Once done, make sure to close the Steam client.
  • Finally, reboot your PC to apply changes, and then try launching the game again.

7. Update Windows

The chances are also high that somehow your Windows OS becomes outdated or has some issues with the stability. In that scenario, you’ll face some issues with the game launching or running the game properly. Make sure to check the Windows update and install it to the latest version.

  • Click on the Windows Start menu > Click on Settings.
  • Go to Update & Security > Click on Check for updates.
  • If there is a new update available, make sure to click on Download and Install. [If the update is already downloaded and ready to install, simply reboot]
  • Once done, restart your PC to apply changes.

8. Try Clearing Steam Download Cache

You should also try clearing the Steam download cache from the client itself to resolve any kind of download-related issues or glitches. To do this:

  • Open the Steam launcher > Click on the Steam tab from the top-left corner.
  • Now, click on Settings > Go to the Downloads section.
  • Click on Clear Download Cache > If prompted, click on OK to confirm the action.
  • Finally, click on OK to save changes and restart the Steam client.

9. Change Steam Profile Name

If none of the methods worked for you then you can try changing the Steam profile name to a new one to check for the issue whether it’s still bothering you or not. Some affected players have tried this specific method and found it useful enough. To do that:

  • Open the Steam client > Head over to your Steam Username (profile) section at the top right side.
  • Now, you should find out ‘Change Profile Name…’ option and click on it.
  • Try changing it to a new display name. [You might receive a dialog box for the same]
  • Just proceed and you’re good to go.
